While putting the finishing touches on the Virginia Avenue Parkway project and mural restoration, it became apparent that Guerrilla Gardeners has a string of stewardship and collaboration projects along an east-west corridor between 6th and 13th Streets SE. This realization formed the basis for our most ambitious plan so far.
Guerrilla Gardeners of Washington DC has launched One Beautiful Mile, a program to perform or facilitate the beautification of the public spaces along a continuous one mile (actually 1.1 miles) stretch from Potomac Circle (14th Street at Pennsylvania and Potomac Avenues SE to I Street at 13th, I Street to Virginia Avenue WB at 7th Street, to Garfield Park at 3rd Street. The Capitol Hill Community Foundation provided the initial funding for this project.
Our aim is to create an attractive and walkable promenade through Capitol Hill through a collaboration of volunteers, residents, homeowners, businesses.
