Iconic cherry blossoms are heralding the arrival of Spring in Washington DC and daffodils are popping up everywhere as nature awakens from a winter slumber. Perhaps no other Spring in memory has been so anxiously awaited so that we can venture outside to partake in a social distancing-friendly activity that is good for the soul as well as the community. Start with preparing your own gardens for the season then tackle that nearby treebox. Submit photos and hours spent working on public spaces for our website and service totals.
For anyone looking to do more, join the volunteers of Guerrilla Gardeners of Washington DC at one of our upcoming Springs Cleanups at Potomac Triangle Parks (13th & I SE):
Saturday, March 27 from 10:00am until noon
Tasks will include weeding, addition of soil amendment, sod removal and some planting. Bring garden gloves and trowels if you have them.
Saturday, April 3 from 10:00am until noon
Tasks will include weeding, addition of soil amendment, sod removal, planting and mulching. Bring garden gloves and trowels if you have them.
For both events, please bring your own drinking water and masks. Current city-recommended social distancing and mask protocols will be observed.
Please reply to Volunteer | Guerrilla Gardeners of Washington DC (guerrillagardenersdc.org) if you are DEFINITELY going to attend and specify which date or both events.
More events will be announced soon.
